Mitel Launches Smartphone Integrated Desk Phone
You have to feel sorry for the desk phone. It is so often seen as the ugly duckling compared to its sexier sibling, the smartphone. But no longer. The humble desk phone has shed its dowdy image and is about to step out of the shadows and into centre stage.
You are probably thinking, “How exciting can a desk phone really be?” Well, think again. Mitel’s new 6900 Series Business Desk Phone rewrites the desk phone rules and here’s how:
1. No More Wires
Yes, its wireless. No more scrabbling under the desk to fit your Ethernet cable, no need to worry about pulling the cable out the wall if you want to move your phone across your desk (not to mention spilling a cup of coffee with a trailing wire). And it also has Bluetooth sync.
One more feature you will love is you can charge your mobile straight from your desk phone. No need to find a socket and leave your phone on the other side of the room while it’s charging.
2. High-Res Display
There are two big improvements here. First off, goodbye to horrible grey contact lists, these phones have high-resolution colour screens. It’s the equivalent of jumping straight from black and white television to Ultra HD TV.
One big bonus of these screens is the avatar-based caller identification. When someone calls you, their name and picture pop up on the screen. No excuse now for ignoring the MD or that person from accounts.
3. Smartphone Integration
We’ve left the best until last, the phone integrates with your Smartphone. Automatic handoff lets you answer a call at your desk and seamlessly continue your conversation on your smartphone if you need to dash out of the office. You can also share your contacts across both devices, so you’ll always have your numbers to hand as and when you need them.
